Episode 16 - Menopause, Perimenopause & Your Career: What Every Woman Needs to Know
Can perimenopause affect your work, confidence and your career?
Dr Juhaina Al Ruheili explains what women need to know about this stage of life.
Think menopause is just hot flushes and night sweats? Think again.
Perimenopause and menopause can affect far more than your periods. They can influence your energy, concentration, confidence, motivation, sleep and the way you show up at work and in business (not to mention itchy ears - who knew?!).
In this episode of the Best Business Podcast, Dr Juhaina Al-Raheli and I chat about what happens during perimenopause and menopause, the symptoms many women don't realise are related to menopause, myths around hormone therapy and why women shouldn’t feel like they have to suffer through this stage of life.
Dr Juhaina Al-Ruheili is a dual-qualified doctor specialising in women’s health and palliative medicine and founder of Sakina. Her work is about creating a space where women can have much-needed conversations about the symptoms & treatment of perimenopause, menopause and the impact these hormonal changes can have on women’s energy, confidence, health and careers.
Please note: This episode is an educational conversation and isn't a substitute for individual medical advice. Speak with your doctor or qualified healthcare professional about your own symptoms and treatment options.
We chatted about…
1. Perimenopause can start long before menopause
Menopause itself is technically the point at which someone has gone 12 months and 1 day without a period. But the transition into menopause or perimenopause can happen for years before. That means many women experience meno & peri-meno symptoms and not realise these symptoms are related to menopause.
2. Menopause can affect much more than your physical health
The list is LONG but we know the commonly talked about symptoms like brain fog, changes in concentration, mood, energy, motivation, sleep and confidence can all affect the way women experience work and run a business.
3. You don't have to suffer in silence
One of the biggest messages from this conversation is that women don't have to accept feeling terrible during this time. The key to making this phase as easy as possible us to understand what's happening in your body, talking to a healthcare professional and find treatment options which suit YOU (not what works for everyone else).
