Can we normalise not knowing what we want to do when we grow up?
If you looked at my career, you would be forgiven for thinking I didn't have my act together.
Law school.
Moving countries.
Fashion.
Marketing.
Advertising
Florist & events business owner
Marketing (again)
Business coaching.
From the moment I left high school, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do (I figured I would study law because I could talk (and argue) for a living. I changed direction more times than I can count, questioned myself constantly and for a long time, I felt like a complete failure for not finishing uni or being excited by a promising career. I also switched universities 1 month before the first Semester and he broke up with me after 1 week.
Ouch.
If you want a deep dive into my origin story, check out Ep 1 of the podcast.
We think everyone else has it figured out.
Fast forward nearly 2 decades (gulp) one of the biggest privileges of coaching business owners is that you get to see behind the curtain.
The entrepreneurs everyone assumes are absolutely smashing it have the same self doubt as the rest of us. Those little voices of doubt are universal.
I don't know if I'm doing this right.
I feel like I'm making it up as I go.
I don't know what my next move should be.
It doesn't matter whether someone is making $10,000 or $1 million.
Every single one of us have moments where we question ourselves.
We assume confidence arrives once you've reached a certain level.
It doesn't. You simply get better at taking action despite the self doubt and uncertainty.
My career has never been linear
When I left high school, I thought I was going to become a lawyer.
I lasted less than 6 months.
It became very obvious, very quickly, that law wasn't my thing, so I left.
That felt terrifying because everyone around me seemed to have a clear direction while I was twiddling my thumbs wondering, well...now what?.
For a long time I felt like I had wasted my time. I was going along a windy path getting nowhere. It took me much trial & error & soul searching to get me on the path which led me to the business which I have today (and love BTW).
Every single failure or fork in the road taught me something. I'm a big believer in minimising regrets, so if I hadn't taken that windy path, I wouldn't have ended up where I am now.
What I was actually chasing
People often ask why I started my own business. It wasn't because I always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur.
It wasn't because I wanted a seven-figure business.
It was because I wanted freedom, something I could call my own which felt meaningful. not just a paycheck, an office and a retirement fund..
I wanted work that fit around my life.
Working in an office was never going to give me the life I wanted.
Why I started the podcast
There's already enough business advice floating around the internet.
Another framework, strategy, funnel, hack, promises of overnight success.
That's not what I want this space to be.
I want it to feel like you're sitting across the table having coffee with someone who's done the work.
Someone who's made plenty of mistakes.
Someone who's coached business owners through exactly the same challenges you're probably facing right now.
Sure, we'll talk about strategy.
Marketing, sales, pricing, systems, mindset…all that good stuff.
But we'll also talk about the messy bits.
The self-doubt.
The (numerous) pivots.
The moments where nothing seems to be working and you want to throw in the towel..
Because that's the reality of building a business.
But it's a lot more comforting when you realise you're not the only one figuring it out.
If there's one thing I hope you realise
It's that you don't need another complicated strategy.
Or to be on every platform.
You need to focus on the handful of things that actually move your business forward.
Less is more. That's what this podcast is here to help you do.
One conversation at a time.
